Politico — President Barack Obama’s top campaign manager, Jim Messina, said Friday that he’s confident the White Senate will come down on the side of Democrats who’ve called for a runoff election, a move that would put the Democrats in the White Congress and give them the ability to keep control of the Senate.
“We’ve got no choice but to go for it,” Messina told ABC News.
“There’s no other choice.”
The Democratic Senate candidate, Mary Landrieu of Louisiana, is expected to make her case for a second term Friday in Baton Rouge.
In a statement released Friday morning, Landrieus campaign said she will be challenging incumbent Sen. Mary Landriu, who’s facing an uphill battle to re-election after losing her seat in 2016.
The statement said Landrieum “is confident that the people of Louisiana will elect a Democrat to the United States Senate and that Landrieucans will get the same high-quality healthcare as every other American.”
It said the Democratic candidate’s goal is to help the state “move forward” in a “time of national and local crisis.”
Messina also said he was confident the Democratic Senate candidates will win in a runoff.
